What Season Are We In?
After taking my little ones to a pumpkin patch to play this morning, we met my sister and her kids for lunch. She showed up with the kids in Christmas shirts because she had just taken them to get their pictures taken (Girlfriend is on top of things this year!) and so I HAD to get pictures of the cousins in their clashing outfits. So funny!! Ya'll know how much effort pictures are, so I did not fault her for not changing them yet again! Chick -Fil -A was packed with moms and kids and I couldn't help thinking that this she is one Mom that does not care what people think of her! Don't they look adorable...even though the babies are crying!

I need help!
I don't know what Vivi should be for Halloween! I bought this pumpkin costume before we had kids at a resale shop, the Lady costume last year was on sale for $3 at The Disney Store, and the fairy costume she had in her dress up clothes. What do I do?! Please vote on my sidebar and help me make up my mind.

What Do They Eat?
Yesterday was Isaac's 4 year check-up at the Dr. They did a vision and hearing screening which were fun to watch! He weighs in at 43 lbs and is 44 inches tall. The Dr. said he is in perfect health! I was a little concerned about being able to see his rib cage from his back, but she said this is normal. She asked what is his typical diet is, of which I replied, "everything we put in front of him and more!" This got me to thinking that with all my meal planning and grocery shopping, what do my kids actually eat in a day? So I thought I would recall what they ate today and post it here for fun. Today was a good day, food wise- so I am happy to report! They ate the same unless otherwise noted:
Breakfast: Pumpkin Oatmeal- my fall concoction of one packet regular oatmeal, a large spoonful of canned pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice, and a little sprinking of brown sugar. Add a dollop of plain yogurt. Isaac said "Ewww...gross" and then ate the whole bowl. Go figure! They also drank yogurt drinks.
Snack at school: animal crackers and water
Lunch: 100% fruit jam on wheat brea,d (peanut allergies at school mean no PB), Veggie Crisps chips for Isaac and carrot sticks for Vivi, strawberry and kiwi slices, this bar and 2% milk boxes.

Afternoon snack: Popcorn for Isaac and milk for Vivi. Isaac had a small package of Sour Patch Kids candy at Grandma's. Vivi had a Dum Dum sucker.
Dinner: Kashi Roasted Vegetable Thin Crust Pizza, All Bran crackers and cream cheese, grapes and a banana, water
Like I said, Isaac eats everything that is put in front of him almost always, even though this is not a rule in our house. Vivi usually eats one meal all gone (plus any and all fruit served throughout the day) and picks around at the other two. Today was no different! Breakfast was her good meal.

Sweet Isaac
But I will shift gears to the fact that I think we might have the silliest boy too! He has really gotten into telling jokes. His newest one said "How do you read the Bible to a troll if you don't have any Bibles? You get him one! Ha Ha Ha...." and he laughed hysterically. I don't get it. His favorite joke is "knock, knock, who's there, chocolate, chocolate who? Chocolate Bunny!" O....Kay.....
Yesterday he said "Why do dogs like to pee on trees that are in the shade?" I don't know I said. "Because they are hot dogs!! Ha Ha!!" I was so glad to finally hear a joke that made sense!
What a goof!

Saturday
We spent all day Saturday in Waco. We hung out with Vivi's birthmother, other two children, and cousin. That was a good visit. Her 7 year old son was so sad at first that Vivi wouldn't go to him! We told him that she does that to us too. But by the end of our visit, she was riding on his back and he was carrying her around saying she was a Queen! So cute. Isaac just loved playing with all the kids in the playground and didn't visit with us much. M's other daughter gave us the same "stink eye" Vivianna gives us everyday, which had us all laughing! I got a picture of the two girls doing the same furrowed eyebrows. Hilarious. Besides Vivi having brown hair and her birthsister having black, they look SO much like each other, and are very similar in their fiesty personalities too. Overall it was a nice visit. We will see them again in November when we go for our agency's annual fundraiser.
Afterwards we went over to where the agency was doing their all day training for potential adoptive parents. We spoke on a panel that included two birthmothers. Their stories were heartbreaking! What struck me the most was when they said that the months following the placement of their babies, their hearts felt like it was breaking every minute of every day. One said that she used to count down the minutes of the day until she could go to bed and be with her baby in her dreams. I was sad to hear that in 4 years for one and 9 years for the other, they had never been in the prescence of the children they placed, only recieved pictures and videos. For both girls, this had been their firstborn child- birthed at around 19 and 20 years old. I can't imagine the sacrifice of love it takes to make the decision that says I do not have the resources to parent this child that is truly my heart. The women said that they used to count down the days until the pictures would arrive and would look over them for hours. These are women who loved the baby God had grown in their bodies so much that they wanted the BEST for that baby. A mom and a dad as one woman put. "Why would I deny my daughter the opportunity to have a Daddy," she said "All children should have a Daddy." Beautiful.
Many people are leary of open adoptions and say they don't want to compete with another mother. I had a person ask me once if I was jealous when Vivi's birthmother held her? What? I in no way feel competitive towards the woman that carried my daughter in her womb for 9 months, gave her life, and chose me for her. I feel gratitude. I am not co-parenting with her. Billy and I chose to pierce Vivi's ears, we chose to put her in mother's day out, we chose to have dogs in our family, we chose to move her out of the crib...we are her parents. I told this lady that I am no more jealous of Vivi's birthfamily loving her than I would be of my sister loving her. Your children can never have too many people that think the sun rises and sets on their sweet face, right?
I am as grateful as anyone who has birthed their daughter is, that God handpicked a little soul to be loaned to me for as long as He sees fit. And I am grateful for the journey that brought them home.
