A New Way to View Classic Fairy Tales

Ya'll know I am always on the search for books that depict African Americans as the main character heros and heroines. Needless to say, this is not an easy feat! So when I came across the above Cinderella book at Half Price for one dollar, I snatched it right up and smiled all the way home! The prince in the book has a braided pony tail! I went to the publishers website, http://www.hyperionbooksforchildren.com/ to search for the other three in the series (Little Red Riding Hood is not pictured) and the site was not much help. But shockingly Target has them for $3.50 plus shipping! I am going to have to add the other 3 to our wishlist, because we don't have extra money- but Isaac was very excited to see these books as he is beginning to point out other African Americans in pictures, ads, and on TV. Thanks so much "Jump at the Sun" for thinking outside the fairy tale box!! And once again...Target has come through for us!

The Weather

The DFW area has benefited greatly from Hurricane Gustav. We have seen some of the best September weather in years! The highs have been in the 70's and 80's with a cooling breeze, some days pretty windy. Yesterday was our best day yet. I took my toddlers outside 3 times at school and took the kids to a park last night before dinner. This is the park I want to have Vivi's b-day at in the Spring. You can see the great gazebo above and the playground is like blacktop turf! Soft and squishy...no woodchips!! There is a toddler gym and an older child gym but Vivi can do both. And there are bucket swings! Yeah!

Isaac and Vivi haven't rode bikes since around Easter time! Poor kids...its just so HOT in Texas!!

***On a side note, even though we have seen good weather here as a direct result of the hurricane, we know there are many who's homes were damaged, inlcluding Billy's uncle. They remain in our prayers. Our city has housed many evacuees over this past week and we are thankful to have been a safe area.

First Day of School!

Well, we survived the much anticipated first day of school! Both kids went to class without any fuss, which was so great compared to our previous year with Isaac! I think it helped that they have been up at the school with me getting my room ready several days last week. Got them used to the environment. My class went well. My feet hurt. :)We had several criers, but all but one were over it by the afternoon. All of them were great on the playground and at lunch. They loved the activities I planned. Overall it was a great first day!

Vivi's class on the other hand was a mess! They have two babies and another little boy that cried ALL day. At about 12:30, I went ahead and took Vivi for the rest of the day. I hated her having to be in a room with so much tension. She is closer to my class' age group so I may have her a lot. Atleast until the other class settles down and they can do activities. I think I will drop her off there every morning so I can tend to my criers and then after lunch, take her over with us. Everytime I checked on her she was just playing or looking dazed! She sat during lunch and ate like a little preschooler. She looked so cute! The teachers said she barely fusses at all. I walked past Isaac's room and he saw me and said "hey, Mom! When are you going to come get me!" then he walked right back in and played with the kids. It warmed my heart to see that he is adjusting so much better to me being away from him. We have come a long way in a year!
